Meet Our Members – Dave Heaton

Representative Dave Heaton just finished serving his eleventh term in the Iowa House.  He represents Iowa’s 84th District, which includes Mt. Pleasant.

Rep. Heaton is the Chairman of the Health & Human Services budget subcommittee, and also serves on the Appropriations, Human Resources, and Judiciary committees.

David was born on February 2, 1941, in Sigourney. His father, Ward, and mother, Jean, were restaurant owners. He graduated from Sigourney High School in 1959. After high school, David graduated from Iowa Wesleyan College in 1964.  In 1968, he married his wife, Carmen.  Together they have two grown children, Mary, and David Jr., and two grandchildren, Sophie and Patrick.

David served in the United States Army Reserve 872nd Ordinance Company.

Meet Our Members – Larry Sheets

Representative Larry Sheets just finished serving his second term in the Iowa House.  He represents Iowa’s 80th District which includes Albia, Centerville, and Eddyville.

Meet Our Members – Guy Vander Linden

Representative Guy Vander Linden just finished serving his third term in the Iowa House.  He represents Iowa’s 79th District which includes Oskaloosa and Pella.

Rep. Vander Linden serves as the Chairman of the Ways and Means committee, and also serves on the Administrative Rules Review, Commerce, and the Administration & Regulation budget subcommittee.

Guy was born and raised in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He is a 1970 graduate of the University of Iowa and holds a Masters Degree from the University of Southern California.

Meet Our Members – Jarad Klein

Representative Jarad Klein just finished serving his third term in the Iowa House.  He represents Iowa’s 78th District which includes Washington and Sigourney.

Rep. Klein is an Assistant Leader in the House Republican caucus and is also the Chairman of the Administration & Rules committee.  He also serves on the Agriculture, Environmental Protection, Natural Resources, and Public Safety committees.

Jarad is the fifth-generation to grow up on the family farm north of Keota.  He graduated from Keota High School in 1999 and purchased his first 80 acres of farmland in Washington County.  Jarad went on to attend Drake University.

Meet Our Members – Dave Maxwell

Representative Dave Maxwell is just finished serving his second term in the Iowa House.  He represents Iowa’s 76th District which includes Grinnell and Williamsburg.

Rep. Maxwell is the Vice Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, and also serves on the Agriculture, Natural Resources, Transportation, and Transportation, Infrastructure, & Capitals budget subcommittee.

Dave grew up in the Deep River area, graduated from Montezuma High School in 1961, worked three years to earn money for college, and then attended the University of Northern Iowa and Iowa State University.  College was curtailed because of the Vietnam War, in which he served.  Dave spent three years in the US Army, one of them in Pleiku, Republic of Vietnam.

Meet Our Members – Dawn Pettengill

Representative Dawn Pettengill just finished serving her sixth term in the Iowa House.  She represents Iowa’s 75th District which includes Belle Plaine, Marengo, and Vinton.

Rep. Pettengill is the Chairwoman of the Administrative Rules Review committee, and also serves on the Commerce, Government Oversight,, State Government, and Ways and Means committees.

Dawn has two sons, Jon and Nick, a daughter-in-law and one granddaughter. As a former mayor and city council person of Mt. Auburn, she wants to preserve and protect small town life.

Meet Our Members – Bobby Kaufmann

Representative Bobby Kaufmann just finished serving his term in the Iowa House.  He represents Iowa’s 73rd District which includes Tipton, West Branch, Solon, and Wilton.

Rep. Kaufmann is the Chairman of the Government Oversight committee, and also serves on the Commerce, Judiciary, Local Government, and Veterans Affairs committees.

Bobby grew up on his family’s farm in rural Wilton and is a graduate of Wilton High School.  He attended Muscatine Community College where he received Outstanding Student of the Year.  He went on to study business at the University of Iowa.  After college he purchased and remodeled a brick home built in 1876. Kaufmann is a crop and livestock farmer who also owns and operates a steel hauling, construction and demolition business in Cedar County.

Meet Our Members – Dean Fisher

Representative Dean Fisher just finished serving his second term in the Iowa House.  He represents Iowa’s 72nd District, which includes Tama and Toledo.

Rep. Fisher is the Vice Chairman of the Natural Resources committee, and also serves on the Appropriations and Public Safety committees, as well as the Education Appropriation budget subcommittee.

Dean is a fifth-generation Iowa farmer and owns and operates a Heritage Farm that has been in his family since 1852. Dean was raised in Tama County and upon graduation from South Tama High School in 1975, Dean went on to receive a Bacehlor’s Degree in Electronics Engineering Technology at the DeVry Institute of Technology in Chicago.

Meet our Members – Ken Rizer

Representative Ken Rizer, of Marion, just finished serving his first term in the Iowa House representing House District 68.  This district consists of part of Linn County.  Marion makes up the major population center in the district. In the House, Ken serves as Vice Chari of the Appropriations Committee. He also serves on the Commerce, Human Resources, and Judiciary committees, as well as the Health and Human Services Appropriations Subcommittee.

Ken served for 25 years as an Air Force commander and fighter pilot. He led Andrews Air Force Base, the home of Air Force One. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Aviation at the University of Dubuque.

Meet Our Members – Sandy Salmon

Representative Sandy Salmon just finished serving her second term in the Iowa House.  She represents Iowa’s 63rd District which includes Waverly.

Rep. Salmon is the Vice Chairwoman of the Veterans Affairs committee, and also serves on the Education, Human Resources, and Public Safety committees, as well as the Agriculture & Natural Resources budget subcommittee.

Sandy and her husband, Matt, live on an acreage between Janesville and Denver and have lived in northeast Iowa 23 years. Currently Sandy partners with her sister to manage the family farm in northwest Iowa.

Sandy was born in Oklahoma where her dad was stationed at the Army base, Fort Sill. After he was discharged the family moved back to their farm near Kingsley in northwest Iowa. They raised corn, soybeans, hogs, and cattle.
