Back in Session

Your Iowa House is back in session.

This week marked the start of the 85th General Assembly, and I am honored to begin serving you once again as your state representative and the Speaker of the Iowa House.

Monday I delivered remarks to the Iowa House, you can read the full text here.

Tuesday the governor delivered his Condition of the State address and released his biennial budget. I believe he did an excellent job of outlining a path to real property tax relief and reform. I was pleased that he is strengthening his commitment to spending less and returning any overpayment to Iowans. I believe if Democrats are willing, we have a real opportunity to work together and move Iowa forward.

Wednesday we heard from Chief Justice Cady on the Condition of the Judiciary. I appreciate the work the courts are doing in communities throughout our state. And I am also interested in the proposal on the business courts. I believe this sends a message that Iowa is open for business.

We also wasted little time getting to work on behalf of Iowa taxpayers as we filed the first five bills in the Iowa House. These bills are focused on ways to protect Iowa taxpayers, offer meaningful long term tax relief, and foster growth in our state economy. You can read more about the bills here.

As a reminder, there are several ways to participate in your state government.  Last year, the Iowa House took the historic step of implementing live streaming of our actions.  That is online again this year and can be found here: House Video.   Additionally, this year the Iowa Senate joined us in livestreaming.  You can watch them here: Senate Video.

Besides weekly newsletters, I will keep you updated through Twitter (@iahouserepubs), on my Facebook or the Iowa House Republicans’ Facebook, through my website or on the Iowa House Republicans’ webpage.

If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at my office at (515) 281-3521 or email at – I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the very important issues facing our state.

Thank you again for the opportunity to serve you in your Iowa House.
