Branstad Signs Education Reform into Law

Branstad and Jorgensen

This morning, Governor Branstad signed House File 215, the Education Reform bill, into law at North High School in Des Moines.  Lawmakers, lobbyists, and students gathered to watch the Governor sign this historic piece of legislation into law.  Among the attendees at the ceremony was Representative Ron Jorgensen of Sioux City, the House sponsor of the bill.

The centerpiece of House File 215  is the “Teacher Leadership Pathways” program, a system designed to raise the stature of the teaching profession and provide a more attractive career option for graduates.  The bill also includes provisions for those outside of the traditional public school classroom, by providing opportunities for home school parents to teach their children without burdensome regulations and impassive state control.
