Candidate Profile: Craig Johnson

Craig Johnson, of Independence, is seeking his first term in the Iowa House.  He is running to represent House District 64 which includes Independence and Oelwein.

Craig was born and raised in Independence.  Growing up he was taught the value of a dollar and a hard day’s work while working for his father’s paint contracting business.  He graduated from Independence Jefferson Senior High School and earned a Bachelors degree in Industry from the University of Northern Iowa.

After working as a sales and engineer manager for many years, Craig gained credentials to join a financial planning practice.  Looking for something new, and having been involved with Heartland Acres as a volunteer since day one, in 2010 he turned passion into a paycheck and took on the Executive Director position for Heartland Acres.  Now he considers every day an adventure of a lifetime.

Craig is a member of the National Rifle Association, Iowa Corn Growers Association, Iowa Soybean Association, the Independence Athletic Boosters Club, and is a member of the Vision Iowa Board.  He is also actively involved in a variety of other organizations and coaches his daughter’s soccer team.

Craig, his wife Susan, and their daughter, Hannah, attend Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
