Candidate Profile: James Butler

©mrogalla photographyJames Butler, of St. Charles, is seeking his first term in the Iowa House.  He is running for House District 26 which includes portions of Warren County.

James was born in Des Moines, and growing up he was taught the value of a dollar and a hard day’s labor.  After graduating from Roosevelt High School, James earned his Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Des Moines Area Community College.  He was hired as a Des Moines Police Cadet in 1988 and a Police Officer in 1990.  During that time he also earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Management from Simpson College.  He also holds to Master of Arts Degrees:  One in Public Administration from Drake University, and one in Criminal Justice from Simpson College.

James has worked in various bureaus of the Des Moines Police Department and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2007.  Currently, he serves as the Chief Humane Officer and supervises the department’s canine team.  For the last eight years, he has also been instructing course at Upper Iowa University.

James has been appointed to the Judicial Nomination Commission twice.  He is a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Indianola.
