Staying Safe This Harvest Season

On Tuesday, September 18, 2012, the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDSALS) issued a press release in which Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey encouraged farmers and those living in and traveling through rural Iowa to stay safe this harvest season. Secretary Northey issued the reminder as part of National Farm Safety and Health Week which runs from September 16 to 22.

    Republicans Announce Job Growth Committee Chairs

    Speaker-Elect Kraig Paulsen (R-Hiawatha) today announced a second round of committee chairs for the 84th General Assembly. This group of committees will be tasked with putting the nearly 114,000 Iowans who are out of a job back to work.

    DNR has Flood Information Available

    On Thursday, August 5, 2010, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) published as part of its weekly electronic newsletter ‘EcoNewsWire’ an article notifying Iowans who have questions related to flood debris, sandbag disposal, well safety and the status of state parks.

    As in 2008, the DNR created a one-stop website for flood information. The website includes a guide to disposing of flood debris and dealing with flood impacts in ag and rural areas, precautions around asbestos and other timely information. Log on to for information that can help in flood recovery efforts.

    DIA Adopts Emergency Rule Concerning Morel Mushroom Inspection

    Morel mushrooms have fallen prey to ever increasing reach of government. A new DNR rule requires all wild mushrooms be inspected by an approved mushroom identification expert prior to their sale at food establishments. On Thursday, April 1, 2010, the Department of Inspections and Appeals approved the emergency rule (ARC 8696B). It was was published in the April 21, 2010 Iowa Administrative Rules Bulletin (pages 2437-2438) and went into effect on April 1, 2010.
