The head of the National Guard Association of the United States, which represents nearly 45,000 current or former Guard officers, wants Congress to keep current Air Guard funding and force structure in place until a new budget process can be implemented.

Col. Drew DeHaes, commanding officer of the 132nd Fighter Wing of the Iowa Air National Guard welcomed 220 airmen back to the United States from a deployment in Afghanistan after they landed in Des Moines Monday night.
The unit has flown more than 800 combat missions in southern Afghanistan; one of their main duties to protect U.S. and Afghan ground forces. The 132nd Fighter Wing performed a first-ever feat for an Air National Guard unit when it moved all its aircraft, equipment and personnel from a base in Bagram to Kandahar Airfield.

Iowa veterans of the Korean War are being invited July 14th to the Iowa Gold Star Military Museum at Camp Dodge in Des Moines, where they will receive certificates of appreciation from the U.S. Department of Defense. About 70,000 Iowans served in the Korean War, and an estimated 35,400 are still living, according to the Iowa National Guard.
The planning for that event will begin at 9:30 a.m. April 14th at Camp Dodge. The Tall Corn Chapter of Korean War Veterans of Iowa is conducting that meeting and inviting representatives of local veterans organizations across the state to participate and spread the word in their communities so as many Korean vets as possible show up for their July 14th recognition.

The House recently passed Senate File 2245, a bill requiring the Iowa Veterans Home to initiate and coordinate a posttraumatic stress (PTSD) dual diagnosis treatment program study.
The study will include finding information on: funding sources, program structure, program requirements, the need for such a program in Iowa, focus on the establishment of a dual diagnosis program for individuals seeking treatment for service-connected posttraumatic stress, and substance abuse. The bill requires that the committee deliver the report to the general assembly and the governor by January 15, 2013.
