Freshman Profile – Terry Baxter

BaxterRepresentative-elect Terry Baxter, of Garner, will enter the Iowa House to serve his first term this January, representing Iowa House District 8.  The district consists of all of Hancock and Wright Counties, as well as portions of Kossuth County.  Algona, Clarion, Garner and Eagle Grove are the major population centers in the district.

Terry is the co-founder and serves as the Executive Director of Global Compassion Network, an organization that provides aid, domestically and internationally, to disaster-stricken areas.  He has traveled on several mission trips to help those less fortunate.

While in the House, Terry will focus on:

  • Attracting new economic opportunities and good-quality jobs to rural Iowa and also addressing the needs of our existing businesses and farmers;
  • Making sure our education system and jobs training programs are preparing Iowans for the jobs of the future;
  • Demanding that government services are as efficient and effective as possible so we hold the line of government spending so that Iowans can keep more of their hard-earned money;
  • Maintaining a transportation system that is safe and maintains a fair balance between the needs or rural and urban Iowa.

Terry has been married to his wife, Debby, for 34 years
