Today Ronald Reagan, 40th President of the United States, celebrates his 102nd birthday.
Many around the state don’t realize that Iowans share a special bond with President Reagan. After graduating from college, Reagan moved to Iowa where he was a radio broadcaster in Iowa City, Davenport and Des Moines. During his time in Iowa, he broadcast home football games for the University of Iowa Hawkeyes, and eventually moved up to WHO Radio where he did play-by-play for the Chicago Cubs baseball team. Reagan also served in the Army Enlisted Reserve Corps, in the 322nd Cavalry in Des Moines prior to WWII.
While he died in 2004, his legacy of lower taxes and limited government has lived on to this day. Ronald Reagan was a true American hero.
A particular fan of President Reagan’s, Representative Dwayne Alons, issued the following statement. “Happy Birthday, President Reagan, we REALLY, REALLY miss you!”
