Iowa House to Honor Iowans in USS Indianapolis Tragedy- Monday, March 5th

Gov. Brandstad and the Iowa House will meet with children, siblings and friends of Iowa sailors on the Indianapolis at the Capitol on Monday at 11:30 following a formal resolution (HR 108) honoring those who died at 1 p.m. in the House chamber.

Thirty-two Iowans died and two survived the WWII tragedy, in which the ship was sunk by a Japanese submarine, leaving some 900 sailors stranded in shark-infested waters without lifeboats, food or water. They were not discovered for four days, by which time only 316 were still alive.
