Meet Our Members – Greg Heartsill

Representative Greg Heartsill just finished serving his second term in the Iowa House.  He represents Iowa’s 28th District, which includes Knoxville, Monroe, and Pleasantville.

Rep. Heartsill is the Vice Chairman of the Local Government and Government Oversight committees, and also serves on the Environmental Protection, Judiciary, and Public Safety committees.

Greg grew up in southeast Iowa in the little town of Salem and went to high school in nearby Mount Pleasant. He received a computer programming degree from Indian Hills Community College and a business degree from Buena Vista College.

Greg worked in downtown Des Moines for 12 years in information technology, designing systems that dealt with various state and federal compliance issues. In 2004, he left the corporate world and started his own custom fence building business in order to have more time with his growing family.

Greg and his wife Angie have lived 21 of their 22-year marriage on a small farm in southern Marion County. They have ten children and enjoy raising grass-fed beef, dairy goats, free-range chickens and ducks. Greg is a member for the National Rifle Association, and Farm Bureau. He also has served on the Central Committee of the Marion County Republicans for several years prior to his service in the legislature.
