Rep. Klein is an Assistant Leader in the House Republican caucus and is also the Chairman of the Administration & Rules committee. He also serves on the Agriculture, Environmental Protection, Natural Resources, and Public Safety committees.
Jarad is the fifth-generation to grow up on the family farm north of Keota. He graduated from Keota High School in 1999 and purchased his first 80 acres of farmland in Washington County. Jarad went on to attend Drake University.
During his freshman year at Drake, Jarad started his career in politics by serving as an intern for George W. Bush’s presidential campaign in 1999-2000. He went on to clerk at the Iowa Statehouse for two years. During the summer of 2001, Jarad joined the Leadership Institute in Arlington, Virginia. While attending school, Jarad also served as the Southeast Iowa filed representative for the Republican Party of Iowa.
Following school, Jarad returned to full-time production agriculture, but has had interest in politics ever since. Jarad met his wife, Rachel, during their freshman year of college at Drake and together they have four young children.
Jarad has served as the Keokuk County Republican Party Chairman and the Republican Party of Iowa Rules Chair.
Jarad’s current and past membership include: St Mary’s Catholic Church in Keota, Washington County Pork Producers, Washington County Cattlemen Associate Member, Washington County Farm Bureau, Iowa Corn Growers Association, Iowa Soybean Association, National Rifle Association, Pheasants Forever, Washington County Empowerment Board, Washington County Republican Party.
