Meet Our Members: Ralph Watts

Representative Ralph Watts just finished serving his seventh term in the Iowa House.  He represents Iowa’s 19th District which includes Adel and Dallas Center.

Rep. Watts serves as on the Commerce, Labor, Veterans Affairs and State Government committees.

Ralph was born on July 26, 1944, in Lovell, Wyoming. He grew up in Wyoming and graduated from high school in Byron, Wyoming, in 1962. After high school, Ralph graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1966 with a degree in electrical engineering.  He accepted a job with Iowa Power and Light Company (now MidAmerican Energy) and moved his family to Iowa.

During a career over 31 years in every phase of gas/electric utilities operations, he rose to the position of V.P. of Power Production. He did graduate work at Drake University and Creighton University. He married his wife, Sandy, in 1964, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Ralph and Sandy have four grown children: Doug, Brad, Rhonda, and ReNae. They are also blessed with nine grandchildren.

Ralph belongs to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he has remained very active over the years.

Ralph is currently retired but keeps busy as a small business owner. He is a past member of the Kiwanis and Lions Clubs, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. He is a member of the National Rifle Association, Dallas County Taxpayers Association, Iowa Property Rights council and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.
