Meet our Members – Ken Rizer


Representative Ken Rizer, of Marion, just finished serving his first term in the Iowa House representing House District 68.  This district consists of part of Linn County.  Marion makes up the major population center in the district. In the House, Ken serves as Vice Chari of the Appropriations Committee. He also serves on the Commerce, Human Resources, and Judiciary committees, as well as the Health and Human Services Appropriations Subcommittee.

Ken served for 25 years as an Air Force commander and fighter pilot. He led Andrews Air Force Base, the home of Air Force One. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Aviation at the University of Dubuque.

Ken is a graduate of the US Air Force Academy, earning a B.S. in Foreign Affairs.  He was selected as an Olmstead Scholar, learned Swedish and attended the University of Stockholm in Sweden where he studied International Security.  He completed an M.S. with Highest Academic Distinction in Strategic Studies at Air University’s Air War College.  He has also earned an MPA in Leadership, Politics, and National Security from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.

Ken is a Special Olympics Iowa Board Member and a member of the American Legion, Rotary, Air Force Association, Military Officers Association and NRA.
