State Representative Chris Hagenow (R-Windsor Heights) was first elected to the Iowa House in 2008 and is currently serving his third term representing House District 43, comprised of Windsor Heights, the Polk County portion of Clive, and the north side of West Des Moines.
Following the 2012 election, Chris was chosen by his colleagues to serve as the House Majority Whip for the 85th General Assembly. Chris previously served as the Chairman as the House Government Oversight Committee. Chris’ committee assignments include Ways and Means, Judiciary, State Government and Administration and Rules.
Chris is a sixth-generation Iowan, raised in Cedar Falls. Chris graduated from Price Laboratory School and University of Northern Iowa Magna Cum Laude in 1994. Chris earned his JD from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1997 and is a member of the Iowa State Bar Association.
Chris is a founding partner of the Des Moines law firm Whitaker, Hagenow & Gustoff, LLP, practicing in corporate law, real estate, trusts and estates and civil litigation.
Chris sits on the steering committee for the Iowa Federalist Society, serves on the Iowa Prayer Breakfast Committee and is a member of the Windsor Heights Lions Club.
Chris and his wife, Amanda, were married in 2005 and have three children, Owen, Noah and Sophia. Amanda is a native Iowa farm girl from Poweshiek County, and is a graduate of Iowa State University. Amanda is a Licensed Dietitian, and works for Hy-Vee Food Stores at their corporate office in West Des Moines. The Hagenow’s live in Windsor Heights and attend Westkirk Presbyterian Church in Urbandale.
