Erik was first elected to the Iowa House in 2008. He was selected by his House Republican colleagues to serve as an Assistant Minority Leader in the spring of 2010. Erik is currently serving as House Republican Whip.

Erik is a life-long resident of House District 69. He is a graduate of Ballard High School. He received his undergraduate degree from Drake University, and earned his Juris Doctorate from Drake University School of Law in 2009. He is employed in compliance at a local bank and participates in the operation of the seventh generation family farm in the district.
He is a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.
