Jim Van Engelenhoven was first elected in 1998. Jim was born on September 8, 1943, in Mahaska County. His father, Everett, and mother, Jeanette, were both farmers on their family farm. He grew up in Mahaska County and graduated high school from Oskaloosa in 1961. Following graduation, Jim continued to work on the family farm as he does to this day.

Jim married his wife, Carol, on June 16, 1965, in Mahaska County. Jim and Carol have one son, Jeffrey.

Jim bravely served his state in the Iowa Air National Guard for six years.

He has served on many 4-H committees as well as the Farm Bureau and Chamber of Commerce. Jim was also elected by his community to serve as the Mahaska County Supervisor.

Jim and his wife attend the Leighton Christian Reformed Church.
