Biography

Peter is serving his Second term in the Iowa House. He filled the seat vacated by Republican Libby Jacobs.

Peter was born and raised in Des Moines. He attended St. Augustin School and then went on to graduate from Dowling High School in West Des Moines. Peter attended and graduated from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia.

After graduating, Peter moved to Washington, DC, and worked at the Department of Transportation for then Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta. He worked as a scheduling and advance assistant for the Secretary, travelling the United States and the world furthering the United States’ transportation interests.

After living in DC for three years, Peter moved back to his home state of Iowa and began working at the Iowa Statehouse for the Iowa Senate Republican Caucus Staff. He was a legislative analyst serving the State Government Committee and the Health and Human Services Budget Subcommittee. While working at the Statehouse, Peter began his graduate studies for a Masters in Public Administration with an emphasis in Public Policy from Drake University. He graduated in August 2008.

Peter is now serving as the President of Junior Achievement of Central Iowa. Junior Achievement is a non-profit located in Des Moines witha mission of teaching K-12 students the merits of entrepreneurship, financial literacy, savings and overall economics. Junior Achievement of Central Iowa reaches over 25,000 students on an annual basis.

Peter also serves as a director on the West Des Moines Community Enrichment Foundation while also volunteering for Junior Achievement of Central Iowa, Boys & Girls Club, Variety Club of Central Iowa, and the Bull Moose Club, West Des Moines Human Services Board, and the Dowling Catholic High School Foundation Board. He is also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in West Des Moines. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Tiffany, in June 2008.
