Biography
Rep. Royd Chambers, first elected to the Iowa House in 2002, is serving in his 5th term. He is also a high school teacher and a member of the Iowa Air National Guard. He resides in Sheldon.
Royd was born in Greenfield, Iowa, and grew up on a farm north of Fontanelle. He graduated from the Bridgewater-Fontanelle Community School in 1979. He attended Iowa Lakes Community College and graduated in 1991 from Buena Vista University in Storm Lake.
Royd served his country in the United States Air Force from 1979 – 1983. He continues to serve his state and country today in Iowa Air National Guard. He holds the rank of Master Sergeant assigned to the 185th Air Refueling Wing in Sioux City. MSgt Chambers currently serves and the First Sergeant of the 185th Mission Support Group. He has received numerous Military awards and honors, including the USAF Meritorious Service Medal, Air Reserve Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Iowa Meritorious Service Award, and Iowa Airman of the Year.
Royd is a member of Sheldon American Legion Post 145 and Sheldon VFW Post 7354, and various Sportsmen’s organizations. He also serves on the Sheldon Downtown Planning Committee.
Royd is married to Barb and they have two children, Sarah and Jacob.He and his wife are active in the Sheldon United Methodist Church.
