Steve Lukan was first elected in 2002 when he defeated the incumbent, Andra Atteberry. Steve helped his father run the family business, a tire service center called Lukan Service until August of 2008. Since then he has joined English Insurance in Dyersville as an Account Executive specializing in commercial insurance. His father, Edward, is a retired service station operator and active community volunteer, currently serving as the President of the Tri-County Sportsmens club. His mother, Doris, is a registered nurse. Steve has two older brothers, Mike and Mark, who are involved in the construction industry in the Dubuque and New Vienna areas.

Steve attended grade school at Hennessey Catholic School in New Vienna. He graduated from Beckman High School in Dyersville. Following high school, he graduated from Loras College in 2003.

He bravely served his country from 1997 to 2001 as a member of the U.S. Navy. He served at Fallon, NV, and aboard the USS Carl Vinson. He received 4 promotions in 4 years. He achieved the rank of E-5, named Sailor of the Quarter NAS Fallon, NV and won the Navy Achievement Medal aboard the USS Carl Vinson. He also was awarded the Good Conduct Medal.

Steve is an active member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, lectoring at mass and having served as Vice President of the Parish Counsel.

In his spare time, Steve is a volunteer fire fighter for the New Vienna-Luxemburg fire department. He is a part of the Tri-County Sportsmen’s Club and the New Vienna Historical Society. He also enjoys hunting and fishing, often with his world class hunting dog, Sadie, a German Shorthaired Pointer.

Steve serves as an Assistant Leader in the Republican Leadership.

Steve has been married to his wife, Sarah, since June of 2011.
