Purple Heart Day Signed Into Law

On Wednesday, April 13, Rep. Dwayne Alons attended the bill signing for the bill designating August 7 as Iowa’s Purple Heart Day. HF 474 will be a day for Iowans to recognize all veterans who have been killed or wounded in hostile actions and have received a Purple Heart Medal for their sacrifice during military service to the United States of America. The bill was the original idea of a constituent of Rep. Chris Hagenow (R-Polk). HF 474 was assigned to Rep. Dwayne Alons, member of the Veterans Affairs Committee, as sub-committee chair and floor manager.

“I am pleased and honored to be a part of this long overdue recognition that our soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines deserve. Even though the day will not be an official holiday, it will be a great opportunity for veteran service organizations to keep the public aware of the high price of freedom that we all enjoy,” said Alons.
