This past weekend, the Des Moines Register had a story in the paper about the Legislature changing the instructional time requirement for school districts from days to hours. The bill, House File 352, passed the House with a bipartisan vote of 84-16 and is currently awaiting consideration in the Senate.
Southeast Polk superintendent Craig Menozzi said that “Allowing the professionals to control the instructional time can make learning experiences much more meaningful.” In addition, the change would allow schools flexibility when determining their yearly calendars.
