Meet Our Members – Bobby Kaufmann

Representative Bobby Kaufmann just finished serving his term in the Iowa House.  He represents Iowa’s 73rd District which includes Tipton, West Branch, Solon, and Wilton.

Rep. Kaufmann is the Chairman of the Government Oversight committee, and also serves on the Commerce, Judiciary, Local Government, and Veterans Affairs committees.

Bobby grew up on his family’s farm in rural Wilton and is a graduate of Wilton High School.  He attended Muscatine Community College where he received Outstanding Student of the Year.  He went on to study business at the University of Iowa.  After college he purchased and remodeled a brick home built in 1876. Kaufmann is a crop and livestock farmer who also owns and operates a steel hauling, construction and demolition business in Cedar County.

KGAN Story on Ft. Madison Prison Delays

Below is a detailed news story that KGAN News ran last week about the numerous construction delays at the Iowa State Penitentiary in Ft. Madison.  The prison was supposed to be up and operational nearly two years ago, but multiple issues has prevented it from opening.  Speaker Kraig Paulsen has tasked Government Oversight Committee Chairman Bobby Kaufmann to look into the delays and find out why taxpayers are on the hook for a prison that has yet to be opened.  Rep.
