Candidate Profile: Norlin Mommsen

Mommsen headshotNorlin Mommsen, of DeWitt, is seeking his first term in the Iowa House.  He is running to represent House District 97 which includes Comanche, DeWitt, and LeClaire.

Norlin was raised in Miles, graduated from East Central High School, and attended the Farm Operations Program at Iowa State University.  He began farming over 30 years ago.  For nearly a decade he worked at a local agriculture retailer selling fertilizer and herbicides.  Today he’s farming again, growing corn and soybeans, and raising hogs and cattle.

Candidate Profile: Mark Ross

Work

Mark Ross, of Bettendorf, is seeking his first term in the Iowa House.  He is running to represent House District 93 which includes parts of Davenport and Bettendorf in Scott County.

Mark received his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Wartburg College in Waverly, and his MBA from the University of Iowa.  Additionally, he has passed the CPA exam.  He is an entrepreneur and has created several successful companies in addition to serving in management positions with McGladrey & Pullen and Per Mar Security Services.  Currently, Mark is the CFO of an advanced manufacturing company.  He has an extensive background in the insurance and accounting industries.

Candidate Profile: Gary Carlson

Carlson headshot #3Gary Carlson, of Muscatine, is seeking his first term in the Iowa House.  He is running to represent House District 91 which includes Muscatine.

Gary is a lifelong Iowan and a graduate of the University of Iowa.  Upon graduating from college, Gary went to work as a First Line Production Supervisor for Bandag, Inc. on the night shift.  It was there that Gary learned how to lead a diverse team of people by maximizing the skills of each team member and creating an environment of communication.  Gary would stay with Bandag for 23 years and managed their operations in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

Candidate Profile: Ross Paustian

Ross Paustian, of Walcott, is seeking his second term to the Iowa House, previously serving from 2011 until 2013.  He is running to represent House District 92 which includes western Davenport, Eldridge, and Walcott.

Ross is a graduate of Davenport West High School and South Dakota State University.  He is a fifth-generation crop and livestock farmer and is the past President of the Scott County Farm Bureau, past President of the Scott County Pork Producers, and past President of the Walcott Community Club.

Candidate Profile: Jeff Shipley

Jeff Shipley, of Fairfield, is seeking his first term in the Iowa House.  He is running represent House District 82 which includes Bloomfield, Fairfield, and Keosaqua.  The district is comprised of Davis and Van Buren Counties, as well as portions of Jefferson County.

Jeff grew up in Naperville, Illinois and graduated from Naperville Central High School in 2006.  He attended the University of Iowa and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science in 2010.  During that time he was recognized as an Outstanding Student Leader by University of Iowa President, Sally Mason for his role as a University of Iowa Student Government City Council Liaison where he advocated against tax increases and for an array of conservative activism on campus.

Candidate Profile: Jane Jech

Jech headshotJane Jech, of Marshalltown, is seeking her first term in the Iowa House.  She is running to represent House District 71 which includes Marshalltown in Marshall County.

Jane attended college in Nebraska and moved to Marshalltown with her husband, Kerry, in 1978 where she worked at a bank for 12 years.  After earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education from Iowa State in 1994, she taught music for three years.  She also substitute taught at a number of Marshalltown area schools.  She was employed at New Hope Christian Church from 1996 to 2009 as the Worship Director.

Jane served on the Iowa Valley Community College District Board of Trustees, which gives oversight to the Ellsworth Community College, Marshalltown Community College, the campus in Grinnell and Iowa Valley Continuing Education.  She served nine years on the board.

Jane and Kerry have four grown children and four grandchildren.

Candidate Profile: Ken Rizer

Rizer headshotKen Rizer, of Cedar Rapids, is seeking his first term in the Iowa House.  He is running to represent House District 68 which includes Marion in Linn County.

Ken served for 25 years as an Air Force commander and fighter pilot where he commanded an F-16 fighter squadron, and F-16 fighter group at Andrews Air Force Base.  At Andrews he was responsible for 60,000 military personnel and their families around the world, balanced a $252 million budget, opened the Department of Defense’s first combined charter school, ensured security for all senior US and foreign officials, and procured a $30 million helicopter operations facility.

Craig was born and raised in Independence.  Growing up he was taught the value of a dollar and a hard day’s work while working for his father’s paint contracting business.  He graduated from Independence Jefferson Senior High School and earned a Bachelors degree in Industry from the University of Northern Iowa.

Candidate Profile: Rick Giarusso

Cedar Falls Photographers, Photographers with mad skills

Rick Giarusso, of Cedar Falls, is seeking his first term in the Iowa House.  He is running to represent House District 59 which includes Cedar Falls in Black Hawk County.

Rick grew up in Wisconsin and earned a Bachelors degree from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and a Masters degree from Silver Lake College.  Rick enlisted in the Wisconsin Army National Guard where he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the US Army, and was employed full-time by the Wisconsin Army National Guard in the Army’s Active Guard-Reserve program.  During that time he met and married Deb Harris, of Cedar Falls, and had a son, Ryan.  The family moved to Iowa, deciding Cedar Falls was the best place to raise a family.

Candidate Profile: Nathan Bolton

Nathan Bolton, of Waterloo, is seeking his first term in the Iowa House.  He is running to represent House District 61 which includes Waterloo in Black Hawk County.

A lifelong resident of the Cedar Valley, Nathan is a graduate of Waterloo West High School, and received a Bachelors degree in Economics from the University of Northern Iowa in 2012.

Nathan served our country in the United States Marine Corps for six years, including overseas in the Iraq War.  Currently, he works at the Target Distribution Center in Cedar Falls.

Nathan is a single father to a six-year-old daughter, Grace.
