Majority Leader Hagenow’s Closing Remarks for the 2017 Session

Each year, we convene at the Statehouse to do the work of the people. Our constituents send us here to be their voice and make Iowa a better place to live, work, and raise a family. They expect us to work hard, work together, and move our state forward. The people of this great state do not send us here to maintain and protect the status quo.

This session, House Republicans did what we said we would do. We listened, we made adjustments, and most importantly, we let the legislative process work. We advanced bold legislation that balances the scales in a number of areas and creates greater opportunities for all Iowans.

Meet Our Members – Chris Hagenow

Majority Leader Chris Hagenow just finished serving his fourth term in the Iowa House.  He represents Iowa’s 43rd District, which includes Clive and Windsor Heights.

Rep. Hagenow serves as the Majority Leader for the House Republican caucus, and also sits on the Administration & Rules committee, as well as the Legislative Council.

Chris is a sixth-generation Iowan, growing up in Cedar Falls, graduating from Northern University High School and the University of Northern Iowa Magna Cum Laude in 1994. Chris earned his JD from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1997 and is a member of the Iowa State Bar Association.

House Republicans Select Leadership

Leaders (Medium)

(DES MOINES) – Today House Republicans elected a new leadership team to lead the caucus into the 2016 legislative session.

Rep. Linda Upmeyer (R-Clear Lake) was selected as Speaker of the House.  First elected in 2002, Upmeyer is currently serving her seventh term in the Iowa House.  She previously served as the House Minority Whip for two years and most recently the House Majority Leader for the last five years.  When not serving in Des Moines, she is a nurse practitioner.  Upmeyer is the first woman to be elected Speaker of the Iowa House.

Rep. Upmeyer will replace Rep. Kraig Paulsen (R-Hiawatha) who announced earlier this month that he will not seek reelection next year and will resign as Speaker prior to the 2016 legislative session.

House Republicans Elect Leadership

(DES MOINES)—Today Iowa House Republicans elected the leadership team that will carry them into the eighty-sixth General Assembly.

Rep. Kraig Paulsen (R-Hiawatha) was selected to continue in the role of the Speaker of the House. Paulsen will be serving his seventh term. He is an attorney for CRST International, Inc. in Cedar Rapids. A former member of the United States Air Force, Paulsen had previously served as the Minority Whip, the House Republican Leader and Speaker for four years.

Rep. Linda Upmeyer (R-Clear Lake) was re-elected as the House Majority Leader. Upmeyer will be serving her seventh term in the House and is a nurse practitioner. Upmeyer previously served as the House Minority Whip for two years and the Majority Leader for four years.
