Meet Our Members – Lee Hein

Representative Lee Hein just finished serving his third term in the Iowa House.  He represents Iowa’s 96th District, which includes Anamosa, Manchester, and Monticello.

Rep. Hein serves as chairman of the Agriculture committee. He also serves on the State Government, Transportation, and Ways & Means committees.

Lee was born in Monticello, Iowa. He attended Iowa State University for two years before returning home to join his family farm. Lee is the third generation to operate the family where they raise corn, soybeans and cattle.

Hein Appointed House Agriculture Chairman

(DES MOINES) – Today Rep. Lee Hein (R-Monticello) was chosen to serve as the Chairman of the House Agriculture Committee.  Hein will replace Rep. Pat Grassley (R-New Hartford) who was recently selected as Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee.

“It is an honor to be chosen by Speaker-elect Upmeyer as the new Chairman of the Agriculture Committee,” said Rep. Hein.  “Agriculture is the center of Iowa’s economy and the heart of our communities.  As a lifelong farmer, I am looking forward to working with fellow agricultural leaders to find solutions for our state’s primary industry.  I have been involved with farming and agriculture for my entire life, so I am excited to have the opportunity to lead this important committee.”

House Republicans Select Leadership

(DES MOINES) – Today House Republicans elected a new leadership team to lead the caucus into the 2016 legislative session.

Rep. Linda Upmeyer (R-Clear Lake) was selected as Speaker of the House.  First elected in 2002, Upmeyer is currently serving her seventh term in the Iowa House.  She previously served as the House Minority Whip for two years and most recently the House Majority Leader for the last five years.  When not serving in Des Moines, she is a nurse practitioner.  Upmeyer is the first woman to be elected Speaker of the Iowa House.

Rep. Upmeyer will replace Rep. Kraig Paulsen (R-Hiawatha) who announced earlier this month that he will not seek reelection next year and will resign as Speaker prior to the 2016 legislative session.

House Republicans Elect Leadership

(DES MOINES)—Today Iowa House Republicans elected the leadership team that will carry them into the eighty-sixth General Assembly.

Rep. Kraig Paulsen (R-Hiawatha) was selected to continue in the role of the Speaker of the House. Paulsen will be serving his seventh term. He is an attorney for CRST International, Inc. in Cedar Rapids. A former member of the United States Air Force, Paulsen had previously served as the Minority Whip, the House Republican Leader and Speaker for four years.

Rep. Linda Upmeyer (R-Clear Lake) was re-elected as the House Majority Leader. Upmeyer will be serving her seventh term in the House and is a nurse practitioner. Upmeyer previously served as the House Minority Whip for two years and the Majority Leader for four years.

Hein Elected to Republican Leadership

(DES MOINES)—Today Rep. Lee Hein (R-Monticello) was elected as Assistant Majority Leader in the Iowa House.

Hein was first elected to the House in 2010 and is currently the chairman of the Environmental Protection committee.  He also serves on the Agriculture, State Government, Ways and Means and Agriculture and Natural Resources budget committees.

“I feel tremendously honored that the House Republican caucus has chosen me to serve on the leadership team,” said Hein.  “I will continue my efforts, working on behalf of Iowans to balance the state budget, grow jobs and protect Iowa’s farmers.”

Hein is a third generation family farmer.  He and his wife, Jacky have two grown children.
