Meet Our Members – Walt Rogers

Representative Walt Rogers just finished serving his third term in the Iowa House.  He represents Iowa’s 60th District which includes Cedar Falls, Hudson, and Waterloo.

Rep. Rogers serves as an Assistant Leader for the House Republican caucus and also serves as the Chairman of the Administration and Rules committee.  Additionally, he serves on the Appropriations, Economic Growth, Judiciary, and Local Government committees.

Walt was born on July 5, 1961, as the sixth of what would be eight children. Walt attended grade school in Waterloo and graduated from Columbus High School in 1979.

House Republicans Select Leadership

Leaders (Medium)

(DES MOINES) – Today House Republicans elected a new leadership team to lead the caucus into the 2016 legislative session.

Rep. Linda Upmeyer (R-Clear Lake) was selected as Speaker of the House.  First elected in 2002, Upmeyer is currently serving her seventh term in the Iowa House.  She previously served as the House Minority Whip for two years and most recently the House Majority Leader for the last five years.  When not serving in Des Moines, she is a nurse practitioner.  Upmeyer is the first woman to be elected Speaker of the Iowa House.

Rep. Upmeyer will replace Rep. Kraig Paulsen (R-Hiawatha) who announced earlier this month that he will not seek reelection next year and will resign as Speaker prior to the 2016 legislative session.

(DES MOINES) – Monday, House Speaker Kraig Paulsen (R-Hiawatha) announced the standing and budget committee chairs for the eighty-sixth General Assembly which begins January 12, 2015.  They are as follows:

House Republicans Elect Leadership

(DES MOINES)—Today Iowa House Republicans elected the leadership team that will carry them into the eighty-sixth General Assembly.

Rep. Kraig Paulsen (R-Hiawatha) was selected to continue in the role of the Speaker of the House. Paulsen will be serving his seventh term. He is an attorney for CRST International, Inc. in Cedar Rapids. A former member of the United States Air Force, Paulsen had previously served as the Minority Whip, the House Republican Leader and Speaker for four years.

Rep. Linda Upmeyer (R-Clear Lake) was re-elected as the House Majority Leader. Upmeyer will be serving her seventh term in the House and is a nurse practitioner. Upmeyer previously served as the House Minority Whip for two years and the Majority Leader for four years.
