Rep. Vondran Applauds Supreme Court Ruling Defending Ban on Pornography in Prisons
(DES MOINES) -- State Representative Mike Vondran (R-Davenport), Chairman of the Iowa House Public Safety Committee, released the following statement today in response to the Iowa Supreme Court’s decision upholding restrictions on sexually explicit materials and pornography in state correctional facilities:
"Today’s ruling by the Iowa Supreme Court is a major victory for common sense and a big win for hardworking Iowa taxpayers. Iowans should never be forced to foot the bill for pornography for inmates. Today, the court upheld the legislature's decision to prohibit the use of taxpayer dollars to make these materials available in Iowa prisons, recognizing that the policy serves legitimate prison safety and security interests.
"Hardworking taxpayers expect us to be good stewards of their money. That means prioritizing true public safety—supporting law enforcement, protecting our communities, and safely staffing our correctional facilities. This decision ensures Iowans' tax dollars will remain focused exactly where they belong: on keeping our state safe and secure."
Representative Vondran represents Iowa House District 94, which encompasses central Scott County, including Eldridge and parts of Davenport and Bettendorf. He currently serves as the Chair of the House Public Safety Committee.
